Perhaps the most visible manufacturer of American apparel is – American Apparel. They offer a pretty nice variety of simple cotton garments aimed at a youthful market. All their goods are made at their factory in Los Angeles. Their employees are paid a living wage. I’d love to recommend them.
Now for the controversy – they have recently placed a number of provocative ads featuring very young models in suggestive poses. They also have an area on their site showcasing staff photos which also features nubile girls looking less than sweet and innocent. As the mother of a pre-teen daughter this has turned me off to American Apparel. Sex may sell, but we don’t need to buy it at the expense of our children.
